”There are two main strategies for economic growth to choose between for large companies. Hostile take over or growth by pushing social economic development forward through education. One will lead to destruction of the planet, the other will lead to sustainable development and possibly even peace.”

Article about Phi Phi Island, By Amy Kazmin at Financial Times after an interview with Mission Titicaco, the Thailand Island Foundation and others..
3rd of April
Short brief of what have been done, when Ivan assisted the Thailands Islands Foundation as head of operations for the Thailand Islands Foundation in Thailand. See photos here!
A thorough pre-study have been performed. Relations have been established at several levels of the Phi Phi Island society, both with local Europeans, local Phi Phi Islanders, Landowners, Phi Phi Islanders living near the Mosque and in the Nong Kok camp in Krabi. Relations have also been established towards local authorities, the Governor Mr. Promnart, the School minister Mr Paiboon and towards her Royal Highness the Princess of Thailand. Good contact and provisioning of primary information have been made to several media channels such as BBC, Financial Times, MTV News, Irish International News and others.
Deep investigations and understanding of the local customs, people situations and needs have been performed. 110 interviews have been made with people in need of micro credits; more than 70 of those have been interviewed two times. A full scale payout of micro credit will affect approximately 600 individual lives. The data from the micro credit interviews have been double checked through conversations with other individuals and is at the moment being coordinated with other organizations that will deliver micro credits too. 12 micro credits have been paid out, that made 12 business operations able to restart, they are now up and running. An internet resource Center have been set up, an office for the Thailand Islands Foundation is secured and shared with HiPhiPhi International.
An early Tsunami Warning (sirens) have been set up (and used when the earthquake south of Sumatra hit). Medical Equipment have been provided at Phi Phi Island and used by voluntary nurses that helped out in more than 600 accidents, mostly caused by exhausted volunteers wearing flip flops. Coordination with Hiphiphi and other organizations resources have been done regarding the aim of what each organisation goals are.
Advice on communicative strategies has been given to landowners, regarding the situation with the government that wants to buy the land. Individuals from the press have been set in direct contact with spokesmen of the landowners. Hundreds of photos have been taken, documenting all kind of situations. The Thailand Islands Foundation has also been at psychological help for people who suffer from horrible memories from the 26th of December.

The purpose is to set up an creative environment where children will be able to activate themselves in sports, arts and culture and be given access to an internet school, in accordance with the human rights article 26, for friendship, understanding and respect among all nations. The center will provide an environment that will make children able to recover faster from the horrible experiences of the Tsunami.
-
Irish National News Televison came to Phi Phi and performed several interviews. Much focus was given to the re-opened shops, bars, restaurants, diving centers, etc and to the work all volunteers are participating in every day. We also managed to mention how micro credits work and the need for relief in schools.
-
Goal accomplished: Internet Resource Center now set up on Phi Phi Island.
-
Goal accomplished: The first Micro Credit has been approved, paid out and the local entrepreneur is now opening her business again. Several people is at present applying and will soon being approved.
-
Meeting with Jumbo and Garn, chief operators of a foundation run by her Royal Highness the Princess of Thailand. The foundation is focused in giving relief to schools and children of families that were directly or indirectly affected by the Tsunami.
-
Goal accomplished: Medical equipment now sent to the Phi Phi island in cooperation and coordination with Michael Coyet, Red Cross. They have on our request sent medical equipment to Phi Phi Island used mainly for immediate treatment of people who was injured when cleaning up on the island. Many volunteers are wounded every day, mostly because of exhaustion or wearing the wrong type of shoes when working with the “clean out” operation.
-
MTV News made an interview with Carl, me and Emiel from Hiphiphi, focused in all the positive volunteer work being done on the Island and inviting the world to a party at Carlitos bar on Phi Phi Island the 26 of March. It will be broadcasted the 1:st and 4:th of april.
-
Much effort for the time being is also put into searching for passports, identifications, bones, scalps and other things that may be used for identification. After we guided Raddningsverket, The Swedish Ministry of Forreign Affaires, the Swedish Red Cross and others on Phi Phi Island. The general consul of Sweden, Krister Asp personally thanked the Thailand Island Foundation on the behalf of the Swedish ID Commission, for collecting approximately 270 items for identification.
First three days
On the behalf of the Thailand Island Foundation I am coordinating the operations here together with Carl Steiner. Approximately fourty volunteers, involving teachers, headmasters, lawyers, project managers and other professionals, working voluntarily for the Thailand Island Foundation in Sweden and another twenty or so here on Phi Phi Island. The purpose is to be at service where it is most needed, naturally this acquires a lot of coordination not only with the local population and the Governor of Krabi, but also with the other foundations that are operating here.
This island is crowded by regular heroes, obviously Martin Luther King Jr. was right when he said – “It is not until it is dark enough that you can see the stars”. Most of the individuals I meet, both foreigners and Thai people, are working from early morning to late evening voluntarily in different kind of operations. Several of them are at the same time suffering from horrible memories that can be seen in their eyes and heard only by listening to their voices.
Others who came here after the Tsunami are giving not only a helping hand, but dedicating their vacations, honeymoons, last savings or for those that are well of, spending a lot of time, effort and money to be at service. And it is obvious the help is needed, help to clean out stores and handing out micro credits to jumpstart whatever business they were operating before is something that creates income opportunities.

Her efforts and actions for the development of Mission Titicaco are greatly appreciated.
23:rd of April 2004 There are many ways to contribute to global development. One of the most important missions of Titicaco Communicaring School is to actually meet with schools, headmasters, teachers and students globally to tell the word and give schools the opportunity to participate in Titicaco Communicaring School. Ingo & Tua has done it, now the Schölander Family is going to do it.
Titicaco Cycling Tour - Patagonia Stockholm
Finalized. Next team taking over:
The Schölander Family World Tour
From left; Bengt Schölander, Katarina Schölander, Julia Schölander (in pink), Anna Lengstrand with Sara Schölander in her arms, Ivan, Tua (with Liv in the stomach) and Ingo.
Titicaco Cycling Tour – Patagonia Stockholm was just finalized by Ingo Wikman and Tua Gandre.
These two heroes has spread the word of Mission Titicaco to headmasters, teachers and students in schools in Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. During that incredible journey they also gathered valuable information for the development of Titicaco Communicaring School.
Another happy surprise is that they became pregnant in La Paz, Bolivia and in March, 8 months later when arriving in Sweden they came to our very successful seminar about Corporate Social Responsibility called “Let the saga come true” and gave a highly appreciated speech to the audience.
Shortly after these events The Shölander Family contacted Ingo and Tua, they to will be going on a world tour and want to spread the word of Mission Titicaco and our global vision!
Imagine the surprise and joy we at Mission Titicaco felt by receiving these happy news.
The Shölanders Family World Tour will be performed by; Bengt, father and sales manager at a large pharmaceutical company and a former physical education teacher. Katarina, mother and teacher for 9: th grade students in a Swedish school. Sara, 8 years old and making a very intelligent impression and Julia only 5 years old and ready to go on her first global road show.
Katarina Schölanders occupation as a teacher and her personal interest in meeting up with schools and studying schools and their curriculums can bring much new valuables to the development of Mission Titicaco.
The Schölanders are planning to leave in August 2004 and together with Mission Titicaco we are now seeking a sponsor who whish to follow up on these important and incredible journeys.

Mission Titicaco share the exact same agenda as the mission of Ge SCI. Astrid Dufborg also pronounced that she will be ready to back up Mission Titicaco and is very interested to follow our development - for this we are grateful!
Mission Titicaco was nominated in the UN WSIS Awards in September 2003. The Ge SCI project is to be started up in Bolivia as well as in Namibia, two countries where also Mission Titicaco is going to be started up. We share the exact same agenda as the UN ICT Taskforce.
2:nd of April Still in a very intense following up period after the seminar the 11:th of March. In dialogue with large companies and attendants from the seminar. We have still not found the time to send out co-founding certificates to those who attended the seminar. We apologize for this, it is a time matter. Very soon you will all receive a report from the seminar and your certificates.
Shortly I can mention though that the overall impression from the speakers and the overall experience from the seminar were extremely high. A few of the speakers has already made other speaking events as a direct result from the seminar. Ingo & Tua has been requested as speakers at talarforum. Teno Cabrera at Gringo Film is wanted for another filming, because of the very professional filmed interviews with Anders Wijkman and Claes Cronstedt. Radisson SAS has received interest from other seminar organizers.
All who answered the question of their impression of Radisson SAS before and after the seminar had increasingly a higher/better impression of Radisson SAS after the seminar than before. Mission Titicaco is wanted for two new seminar events created by other organizations. A few very large companies are highly interested in making themselves active partners in Mission Titicaco. Direct sponsoring/partner offers are being produced and shortly positive results are to be presented.

Tuesday 23:rd of March Highly positive response from the seminar - the interest for joining Mission Titicaco has never been this high. We are now in an intense following up period from the seminar going to meetings with possible rollout partners.
We apologize for not yet have presented the reports from the seminar, on how the whole event was received - but at this moment we have to prioritize the main partnership seeking process.
Thursday 11:th of March Mission Titicaco held a seminar about Corporate Social Responsibility and how to make the saga "Titicaco King of the Sea" come true. Approximately 100 dedicated individuals showed up at Radisson SAS Royal Viking Hotel - Södra Paviljongen!

They have brought very valuable experiences to Mission Titicaco and more is to come.
It made no difference that Tua is pregnant in the 8:th month, she rode the bicycle anyway. Ingo Wikman and his company InGo Active have great potentials here in Sweden now, where companies and leaders are looking for inspiration and power to change negative trends into positive!
We made a slight change to the program of the seminar, now Ingo & Tua will also participate tomorrow.
98 persons have registered for the seminar so far.
Tuesday 9:th of March
Meeting with Lars Benon, founder of Globala Gymnasiet. He gave Mission Titicaco some very interesting feedback on how the need for Titicaco Communicaring School actually has been pronounced by several institutions and organizations. It is my strong belief that Titicaco Communicaring School is coming closer and closer to be realised and activated together with Swedish schools - we are needed!
Thinking of the United Nations recommendation for education for international understanding and the Swedish curriculum plan goals of understanding and friendship among all people, Titicaco Communicaring School is not wanted – it is a must! Titicaco Communicaring School or a similar infrastructure is needed to be able to obtain the goals of understanding among different people from different cultures.
